RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare investigation and remediation work plans, field work schedules and associated client and regulatory reporting
- Lead the evaluation of environmental investigations, remediation activities, and regulatory compliance strategies.
- Interpret complex environmental datasets, including soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
- Evaluate environmental liabilities and identify strategic options for investigation, remediation, and risk mitigation.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to Risk Managers and supporting staff.
- Direct and oversee work performed by environmental consultants and subcontractors.
- Review investigation and remediation work plans, field activities, and technical deliverables.
- Ensure consultant work meets regulatory requirements, project objectives, and technical standards.
- Evaluate environmental risks associated with contaminated properties and remediation programs.
- Develop strategic recommendations for managing environmental liabilities and regulatory exposure.
- Prepare internal briefings for company leadership summarizing technical findings and strategic options.
- Establish and manage project budgets for environmental investigation and remediation activities.
- Review consultant invoices and evaluate costs relative to approved scopes of work.
- Ensure project activities are performed efficiently and within established financial parameters.
- Prepare technical memoranda, summaries, and briefing materials for management and clients.
- Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support regulatory communications and preparation of key technical documents.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE
Candidates must possess at least one of the following active professional credentials:
- Professional Geologist (PG)
- Professional Engineer (PE
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
REGULATORY EXPERIENCE
Experience working within state remediation licensing programs or comparable regulatory frameworks is highly valued. Examples include programs such as:
- Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) – New Jersey
- Licensed Site Professional (LSP) – Massachusetts
- Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) – Connecticut
- Comparable remediation programs in other jurisdictions
EXPERIENCE
- Approximately 8–15 years of experience in environmental consulting, site investigation, remediation, or environmental risk evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex environmental projects and consultant teams
- Strong background in interpreting environmental investigation data and regulatory frameworks.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (current or ability to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong technical judgment and analytical ability.
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of environmental data into clear strategic conclusions
- Demonstrated leadership in managing technical environmental projects.
- Ability to manage complex projects and budgets simultaneously.
DESIRED SKILLS
- Ability to clearly explain complex environmental data and technical issues to management, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong written communication skills, including the preparation of concise technical memoranda and project briefings
- Professional and effective communication with consultants, regulators, and internal team members.
- Experience mentoring or guiding technical staff.
- Experience working across multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
