Senior Risk Manager

This position serves as a senior technical advisor responsible for guiding investigation and remediation strategies, overseeing consultant activities, and supporting management in the evaluation of environmental risk. The Senior Risk Manager also provides technical leadership to internal staff, including Risk Managers and other technical personnel, and plays a key role in ensuring that environmental projects are conducted efficiently, strategically, and within defined financial parameters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare investigation and remediation work plans, field work schedules and associated client and regulatory reporting
  • Lead the evaluation of environmental investigations, remediation activities, and regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Interpret complex environmental datasets, including soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
  • Evaluate environmental liabilities and identify strategic options for investigation, remediation, and risk mitigation.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to Risk Managers and supporting staff.
  • Direct and oversee work performed by environmental consultants and subcontractors.
  • Review investigation and remediation work plans, field activities, and technical deliverables.
  • Ensure consultant work meets regulatory requirements, project objectives, and technical standards.
  • Evaluate environmental risks associated with contaminated properties and remediation programs.
  • Develop strategic recommendations for managing environmental liabilities and regulatory exposure.
  • Prepare internal briefings for company leadership summarizing technical findings and strategic options.
  • Establish and manage project budgets for environmental investigation and remediation activities.
  • Review consultant invoices and evaluate costs relative to approved scopes of work.
  • Ensure project activities are performed efficiently and within established financial parameters.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, summaries, and briefing materials for management and clients.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support regulatory communications and preparation of key technical documents.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE

Candidates must possess at least one of the following active professional credentials:

  • Professional Geologist (PG)
  • Professional Engineer (PE
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

REGULATORY EXPERIENCE

Experience working within state remediation licensing programs or comparable regulatory frameworks is highly valued. Examples include programs such as:

  • Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) – New Jersey
  • Licensed Site Professional (LSP) – Massachusetts
  • Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) – Connecticut
  • Comparable remediation programs in other jurisdictions

EXPERIENCE

  • Approximately 8–15 years of experience in environmental consulting, site investigation, remediation, or environmental risk evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex environmental projects and consultant teams
  • Strong background in interpreting environmental investigation data and regulatory frameworks.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (current or ability to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong technical judgment and analytical ability.
  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of environmental data into clear strategic conclusions
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing technical environmental projects.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and budgets simultaneously.

Risk Manager

The ELAM Group is seeking a Risk Manager to support environmental investigation and remediation projects across a variety of regulatory jurisdictions. This position assists the Senior Risk Manager and management team by evaluating environmental data, reviewing consultant work, and helping manage projects within defined technical and financial parameters. The Risk Manager plays a key role in organizing and interpreting environmental information—including historical reports, investigation results, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS—and synthesizing those findings into concise technical summaries to support internal decision-making. This position is well suited for an environmental professional with solid technical experience who is ready to expand their role in project analysis, consultant oversight, and environmental liability evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review historical environmental reports, regulatory correspondence, and site investigation data.
  • Evaluate environmental datasets including soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
  • Summarize technical findings into concise memoranda and briefings.
  • Assist in identifying environmental risks, liabilities, and areas requiring additional investigation.
  • Assist Senior Management in overseeing the work of subcontractors and environmental consultants.
  • Review investigation and remediation work plans, field activities, and technical deliverables.
  • Support preparation of work plans, technical reports, and regulatory submissions.
  • Assist in developing and tracking project budgets.
  • Review consultant invoices for technical consistency and alignment with approved scopes of work.
  • Support project management efforts to maintain work within established budgets.
  • Prepare technical summaries, reports, and internal briefing documents.
  • Communicate project status and technical findings to the Senior Risk Manager and management team.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and data summaries 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of experience in environmental consulting, site investigation, or remediation.
  • Experience reviewing environmental data and technical reports.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory programs and site investigation practices.
  • Professional Geologist (PG), Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or progress toward licensure.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (current or ability to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Project Manager

The ELAM Group is seeking a Project Manager to support the implementation of environmental investigation and remediation projects. This position focuses on the day-to-day management of field activities, coordination of subcontractors and staff, regulatory reporting, data quality assurance and quality control, and project budget management. The Project Manager works closely with Risk Managers and Senior Risk Managers to ensure environmental projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with regulatory requirements. This role requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate multiple project elements while maintaining strict adherence to budgets and schedules. While the primary focus of this position will be projects located in Indiana, the Project Manager may also support environmental projects in other jurisdictions as part of ELAM’s broader project portfolio.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and coordinate environmental investigation and remediation field activities.
  • Oversee subcontractors, drilling crews, laboratories, and other project vendors.
  • Coordinate field schedules, mobilizations, and project logistics.
  • Ensure field activities are conducted in accordance with approved work plans and health and safety requirements.
  • Review and evaluate environmental investigation data including soil, groundwater, vapor, and other environmental media.
  • Perform data QA/QC and ensure compliance with project data quality objectives.
  • Maintain organized project records and documentation.
  • Prepare and support regulatory reports, including investigation reports, monitoring reports, and remedial documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of regulatory correspondence and responses to agency comments.
  • Ensure project activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and track project expenditures.
  • Review subcontractor invoices and evaluate costs relative to approved scopes of work.
  • Monitor project schedules and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Coordinate project activities among ELAM staff, subcontractors, and laboratories.
  • Provide regular project updates to Risk Managers and Senior Risk Managers.
  • Support client communications and regulatory interactions as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Master’s degree preferred

Candidates must possess one of the following professional credentials:

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG) in the State of Indiana
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Indiana
  • Approximately 5–10 years of experience in environmental consulting, site investigation, or remediation project management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental field programs and coordinating subcontractors.
  • Experience preparing regulatory reports and managing project documentation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (current or ability to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Experience working with environmental regulatory programs in Indiana preferred.
  • Ability to support projects outside Indiana on an as-needed basis.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to manage environmental field activities and subcontractor performance.
  • Solid technical understanding of environmental investigation and remediation practices.
  • Ability to manage project budgets and schedules.
